Shanell Lightfoot is a Galesburg native who you may remember from "The Banner Years" with the Galesburg girls basketball team as Shanell Jackson.

Shanell returned to Galesburg to bury her father in 2022 and rather than staying with family, chose to get a room for the weekend at The Great House. 

"I had the chance to experience Galesburg from a different vantage point. I toured the Silas Willard Mansion (legend has it it was a stop on the Underground Railroad for freedom seekers), grabbed coffee at Orange Cup Side Hustle, met up with a girlfriend at Koreana, walked the grounds of the Knox County Court House and Knox College, ate dinner with my nieces at Craft, and even ventured over to George Washington Gale's home & Carl Sandburg's 1st boyhood home. I had become a visitor in the very town I grew up in. On my flight back home to Atlanta, I couldn't stop thinking about how much of an unassuming gem our small town was. It was then that I believed I could be the one to bring an immersive tour experience to town that would add value by inspiring others to discover & experience the very best of historic Galesburg."

 A few months later, Galesburg City Tours & Travel Co was born.
